Exhibition statement:
Dreamscape invites viewers into a world where colours and textures come together in a striking visual experience. Melbourne-based abstract artist, Natalie Wijeyeratne, presents a unique installation featuring lightweight, flowing textiles complemented by upcycled ceramic vases.
This exhibition creates a sensory encounter that blends vibrancy with subtlety, and reflects the ever-changing nature of dreams — both our subconscious thoughts and the paths we pursue. Connecting the private, personal world of dreaming to the external reality of personal aspirations gives both reference and reverence to the roles these play in shaping our identities. The contrast of the rough, textured vases and the smooth, flowing fabric invites viewers to consider the interplay between softness and ruggedness.
Through this dynamic use of colours and textures, Dreamscape challenges the viewer’s perceptions. Engaging the viewer with the tactile qualities of both the fabric and the vases, themes of renewal, exposition, trust and transformation are brought forward for reflection.
