Exhibition statement:
Opt In is a community exhibition that explores the concept of recycling. This quirky collection of art is not just about encouraging the use of recycled materials, artists in this exhibition could also recycle an earlier piece of their own, recreating or reimagining their ideas.
In 2024, Cardinia Art Society organised a bus tour of local Op Shops to support the project. Artists embarked on a treasure hunt for useful materials or ideas that could contribute to their artwork.
Approaching art with sustainability in mind not only offers the opportunity of great innovation, but the chance to make much-loved artworks shine once more. Whether starting a piece from scratch or reworking something preexisting, artists have been given every opportunity to Opt In.
