Yearnjenong will officially open on Tuesday, 27 May as part of our Reconciliation Week event at the Hills Hub.

Sam will be in residence on Saturday, 31 May where you are invited to meet the artist. Sam will be talking about her work and culture, as well as offering to opportunity to interact with some of her cultural objects, kids colouring and contribute to her new artwork.

Artist statement:

yearnjenong (barefoot) explores my ancestral connection to the land, animals, waterways and people, and the knowledge that we can learn from them if we stop and listen, if we let our feet touch the earth and our spirit connect. Embracing nature and the beauty it holds, the history and memory that we can still see today in pockets across the land. Learning from our past, and using that knowledge to create a future of shared connection and care for Country.

Artist biography:

Sam Richards is a proud Wurundjeri, Dja Dja Wurrung woman. She is the founder of ‘Connecting Two Worlds’ which offers cultural educational workshops that focus on delivering interactive and engaging content to all age groups with the aim of sharing traditional and modern Indigenous Culture through education and art.

Richards shares Culture through contemporary Indigenous art in the form of murals, canvas and digital works that utilise traditional Wurundjeri and Victorian symbols to create stories, share knowledge, and bring Culture to the forefront, allowing it to be emersed into modern culture for all to see and celebrate.
