Exhibition statement:
All the work in the show is interconnected by illustrating the relationships between endangered species, humans and the environment, focusing on the levels of empathy we show towards our environment and animals.

The ‘mouse’ on the diorama sets is not in fact an ordinary house mouse, nor a native mouse, but the small native marsupial Antechinus. They are often affected by pest control due to their likeness to house mice.

The artist poses the question: Does the new generation care about the loss of species?

As an eco-artist, Tanya hopes to change community members’ attitudes when they see a mouse in the house by encouraging them to ask the questions, “what kind of mouse is this? Is it a native?”, rather than jumping to the conclusion that it must be a pest.

Artist biography:
Tanya has been taking photographs since she was a teenager and her practice now includes Painting, Mixed media and furniture making.
