HOT comes from time spent working with young people in youth justice, and thinking about the pressure they face early in life, with constant exposure to out of reach wealth. 

The work is built from Holden Commodore bonnets, the most stolen cars in Victoria, cut into three letters that spell HOT. The word holds a double meaning: something stolen and something desirable. Cars sit in that overlap, tied to money, risk, and play. 

A star made from seat belts sits behind the letters, referencing video games like GTA, where crime is scored and evading police becomes part of the game. 

In Victoria, it costs around $7,000 a day to keep a young person in detention, while the conditions behind it remain unchanged. 

Christopher Henderson is an Australian artist working across painting, sculpture, and public art. His practice draws on youth culture and lived experience, exploring themes of risk, identity, and social pressure.
