Narrating every new generation to hit adolescence, are adults who have forgotten where they came from, and have everything to say about the youth of today. We often judge by appearances, and believe we have all the solutions to all youth problems. There are common assumptions that we were ‘better’; our era was ‘better’, our outlook was ‘better’, and our behaviour was ‘better’.  

But are we so different? 

This collection has been collated from the archives of Emerald Secondary College, and from private alumni submissions. It became swiftly evident that the high school has always been merely the stage for countless amazing young people to develop and learn.  

Generations of students have navigated their individual challenges and personal growth while follow a similar path with familiar rules, familiar academic structures and while having similar great/not-so-great school-based experiences; yet every one of us finds our unique place in the world.  

Society has changed significantly in 40 years. What remains consistent is that young people are indeed our future, and there has never been a more important time to celebrate, support and put trust in our youth.
