Nikki Willson is a lens based artist practicing in video installation and photography. Her practice spans over 20 years. Her work is concerned with the emotional and psychological aspects of the construction and experience of identity particularly in relation to women and otherness.  

The exhibition features a selection of printed photographic work as well as two projection pieces.

“As a neurodiverse artist working within a feminist lens, projection piece “From One Extreme” uses the female body and employs the physicality of movement as a tool to interrogate the challenges inherent in navigating a world that can feel out of control, painful and overwhelming. It is an attempt to make visible what is essentially an invisible experiential state.”

“Incorporating movement and sound to create an immersive sensory experience and drawing upon references to the Pietà this work explores the individual as well as the collective experience of maternal grief, loss and trauma. 

At this moment in history it is impossible to be impervious to the suffering of mothers as we see this trauma enacted on a monumental scale. A personal, collective and cultural grief which defies comprehension. Grief is experienced in the body and through choreography and videography I use the body, movement and form to make visible the way we carry this with us. And the way in which we try to find shape and meaning within its cloak.” Nikki explains projection piece “From Where I Begin’“
